Why would you want something handmade?

Its more expensive, it takes longer and you can buy it in the shops right?

Err..well no, not exactly, and if its close to what you want, but its not what you want ....then a miss is as good as a mile. Reasons you may want to commission a piece:

• You have seen the perfect piece of furniture but its not: (delete as appropriate) a) the right colour b) the wood you want c) the size you want, or d) the finish you want. In fact its not even close to what you want.
• You have a space in your home or office that you cannot find the table/desk/cabinet/bookcase or whatever to fit it.
• You have been to Ikea.
• You have a beautiful piece of furniture passed on to you from your grandmother/father/great uncle/not so great aunt/other and you want a complimentary piece to match it.
• You have more money than you know what to do with, have the house/car/lifestyle of your dreams and are looking for the unique fulfillment that comes from being involved in the creation that is design.
• You have been to Ikea (again)
• You have a great idea (see 'Slam-a-gavel' in the gallery...only in America) and no-one else has either thought of it, or you cannot find anyone willing to take it on (see 'Slam-a-gavel' in the gallery).
